Hi. My name is Rebecca Blum - an artist, entomology enthusiast, musician and future aerospace engineer. Art and music is where I like to express emotion. When I feel stronger emotions, my imagination is more vivid, which of course can be both a good and a bad thing. In the best of times though, this energy can be redirected into a piece of art, or art by the way of music.

The phoenix chick on the right is my favorite drawing that I have ever made. I sketched it in pencil in 12th grade and two years later, used my iPad to color it. It turned out to be my only art piece that I can call "complete".

Below is a scene I drew with inspiration from one of my favorite TV shows, Doctor Who. This show has not only given me ideas for making art:  it definitely played a part in getting me to decide on doing aerospace engineering - so I can help explore the mysteries of the universe!

Inspiration

A lot of my inspiration comes from nature and places I travel to. Some inspiration comes from looking at objects such as moss or insects under a microscope - looking at the wrinkles of a snail's skin and how visible similar a stem of moss is to a plant.

Two things I am working on are adding motion to drawn figures or beings, and creating a certain atmosphere using color and background blurring. The image to the left is one I took at Glen Erie Castle this weekend. A mist had settled over the grounds in the most breathtaking way. I intend to use this image with helping me further my abilities to create such an atmosphere in a drawing or painting.

And finally..... drumroll please.... a recent photo of myself - something that almost never happens.

I am far more likely to take photos of things around me, than actually have me in the picture. Photography is another art form I enjoy. Especially when it tricks the mind, like in the photo of the two dahlias below. I also have chickens :)
