For project 3, my main idea is to dive into the imagination of Theon, my leopard gecko, as he hunts a Dubia roach. After he becomes aware of the delicious food-on-legs. We then travel to the imagination of Theon, and see the hunt as Theon The Great and Powerful sees it. During the chase, Theon gets stockier, can breathe fire, and grow wings out of no where.
I got this inspiration from the fact that sometimes Theon sees other things such as my fingers as food (giant juicy worms!!). This made me think, what if he sees the world differently? For example, if he thinks he can take on my fingers - which, in reality, are way too large for him to eat - does he think he is more powerful than he is?
One funny thing about leopard geckos is that, given the chance, they will happily jump off things and somehow survive (provided the fall is not too high). Maybe they just think they can fly! That is where my inspiration for the "wings out of nowhere" comes from.
To make the animation simpler, "animated Theon" will be one color, and the roach two shades of pink (to distinguish the legs better). The backgrounds will also be simplistic with colors that contrast the two main characters.
Here is the storyboard so far, and below it are some studies on Theon and the background landscape:
Study of Theon The Great and Powerful. The orange dots mark the rigging points on the tail. Theon's body will be animated based on videos I have of him walking around.
An example of one of the backgrounds (the only complicated one, since its used for Theon and the roach running across it three times).
